Who is the audition for?

All new musicians interested in joining SCYO in 2027 will need to audition.

All current musicians are also required to audition, even if they intend to stay in the same ensemble. This will allow conductors to have a good understanding of every musician’s individual level and inform repertoire choice in the coming year.

Dates & Times

Application deadline: 11:59pm, Monday 26 October 2026

Video application submission deadline: 3pm, Friday 30 October 2026

In-person audition dates:

  • Saturday, 31 Oct 2026:
    • Concert Band
    • Wind Ensemble
    • Wind Symphony
    • Youth Symphony
  • Sunday, 1 Nov 2026:
    • Amati
    • Sinfonia

Each audition goes for a maximum of 5 minutes. Musicians will be prompted to select a time slot during the registration process.

Audition Fee

$25 per musician – non-refundable once application is submitted.

Audition Requirements

Audition excerpts will be released by 30 Sep 2026.

What will happen on the day?
  1. Please bring your instruments, sheet music, and printed excerpts as requested. Music stands are provided.
  2. Arrive 15 minutes before your selected time slot.
  3. You will be directed to a warm-up room where you can unpack and warm-up.
  4. A staff member will call you for your audition and bring you to the audition room.
  5. Complete your audition (will only take up to 5 minutes).
  6. Pack up and enjoy the rest of your day!

Video audition

If you are unable to attend the audition weekend in person, you can complete a video audition by:

  1. Apply to a video audition.
  2. Prepare the same audition requirements as above.
  3. Record your audition at home.
  4. Use wetransfer to send your video recording to audition@scyo.org.au before 3pm, Friday 30 October 2026.

When will I get my results?

Results of the audition will be published within 4 weeks after the audition.
